Traversata dell'Adriatico

Sulle orme dei nostri avi

The Adriatic Crossing, called “In the footsteps of our ancestors,” was born from the experience of the Maraton Ladja. It was carried out as part of the international initiatives of the Adriatic Euroregion, in collaboration with the Croatian association Udruga Lađara Neretve.

Historical significance

The event was organized to commemorate, after more than 500 years, the migration of the populations of the Neretva River valley who, to escape the Turkish invasion, reached the Molise coast.

The route
  • The Croatian rowers set off from Metković aboard a Lađa from Neretva.

  • They traveled down the river to the port of Ploče.

  • From there, escorted by a Croatian military ship, they rowed across the Adriatic Sea.

  • They were welcomed at the Termoli Sailing Club by a Croatian delegation and regional authorities

The symbol

To symbolize the arrival and settlement of their ancestors, a reproduction of the “Lađa della Neretva” has been placed on the roundabout at the junction of the Castellelce valley road, which connects the roads to the Croatian-Molise villages.
